2000 World Figure Skating Championships, Nice.
Men's Short Programme, Tuesday 28th March.

Warm-up Group 1.

Vakhtang Murvanidze (GEO) - 3axel2toe; fell out of 3lutz. Didn't see his programme as the Eurosport broadcast began just as he finished.

Yuri Litvinov (KAZ) - fall on 3axel; changefoot camel; 2flip; spin combo; 3toe3toe, with a turn in between ; circular steps; flying sit; straight steps. 2.7 to 3.5, 3.9 to 4.4.

Matthew Davies (GBR) - 2axel; 2flip turns 2toe; lovely changefoot sit; straight steps; death drop; fall on 3lutz; more steps I think; spin combo (also nice). 2.6 to 3.6, 3.8 to 4.5.

Cornel Gheorghe (ROM) - 3lutz2toe; 2flip(leaning badly); spin combo; circular steps; changefoot camel; 2axel; straight steps; flying camel, major problems with centring on landing and struggled throughout the spin. 3.2 to 4.0, 3.9 to 4.5.

Yamato Tamura (JPN) - 4toe landed forwards; 3flip(just, leaning)2toe; flying sit; circular steps; changefoot sit; straight steps; 2axel; spin combo. 3.4 to 4.0, 4.2 to 4.8.

Sergei Rylov (AZE) - fall on 3axel; 3lutz; flying camel, fast; serpentine steps; changefoot sit, also fast; circular steps; 2axel; spin combo. 3.6 to 4.3, 4.3 to 4.8.

Group 2.

Roman Skornyakov (UZB) - 3axel3toe; 3lutz, pause between steps and jump; changefoot sit; steps; 2axel; spin combo; circular steps; death drop. 4.4 to 5.0, 4.8 to 5.1.

Ben Ferreira (CAN) - 3axel2toe; 3lutz, hand down; combination spin; circular steps; changefoot sit; serpentine steps; big 2axel; flying sit. Fast spins. 4.2 to 4.8, 4.6 to 5.2

Markus Leminen (FIN) - 3lutz, lovely and high; death drop; 3axel hand down 2toe; changefoot sit; straight steps; 2axel landed with arms folded; circular steps; spin combo, some travel. Pity, he landed a great 3axel3toe in the warm-up. 4.3 to 4.7, 4.5 to 5.0.

Konstantin Kostin (LAT) - 3axel, foot down, looked about to go for the toe, turn, 2toe; 3lutz; changefoot camel; serpentine steps; flying sit, huge jump; 2axel, arms folded from takeoff to landing!; spin combo. 3.8 to 4.5, 4.4 to 4.9.

Szabolcs Vidrai (HUN) - 1axel, seemed to just come off the edge on the takeoff; flying sit; 2lutz; spin combo; circular steps; 2axel; changefoot sit; straight steps, ending crouched at the barrier in the corner of the rink. 3.0 to 4.1, 4.0 to 4.8.

Michael Tyllesen (DEN) - 3axel1toe; 3flip; flying sit; circular steps; spin combo; 2axel; changefoot sit; straight steps. Quite bizarre, I thought, but never mind. 3.8 to 4.9, 4.5 to 5.3. This is more bizarre - the Canadian judge had him seventh!

Group 3.

Ivan Dinev (BUL) - 3axel2toe, axel was huge; 3flip; combination spin, interesting arm positions; changefoot sit, again with inventive positions; 2axel; flying sit, almost an Ina Bauer before it. Couldn't really tell where the step sequences were. This is the most bizarre of all, of course - this is the programme where his arm is a snake. 4.6 to 5.1, 5.0 to 5.3.

Vincent Restencourt (FRA) - 3axel2toe; 3flip; changefoot sit; 2axel; serpentine steps; straight steps; spin combo with hop in the middle; flying spin. 4.7 to 5.3, and I just deleted the second marks, oops, they were about the same, anyway. Australian judge got booed for placing him fifth!

Timothy Goebel (USA) - changefoot sit; 4salchow; 3axel2toe; circular steps; 2axel; death drop; spin combo. There is definitely a push with the free leg on the salchow takeoff. His spins were great, I don't know why no-one's mentioned them when they say he has nothing but jumps. 5.1 to 5.6, 5.1 to 5.5.

Patrick Meier(SUI) - 3axel, spin out, foot down, 2toe; 3lutz; changefoot sit; circular steps; 2axel; deathdrop; straight steps; spin combo. Strange, tuneless music, can't imagine why he chose it. 4.2 to 4.5, 4.8 to 5.1.

Anthony Liu (AUS) - 4toe, lovely; death drop; 3lutz3toe; 2axel; changefoot sit; straight steps; spin combo. 5.0 to 5.6, 5.2 to 5.5.

Dmitri Dmitrenko (UKR) - 3axel3toe fell out of the toe onto both hands and feet; 3lutz two footed, and more than just a touch-down; flying camel; straight steps; 2axel; changefoot sit; circular step sequence on one foot; spin combo. 4.3 to 5.0, 5.2 to 5.5.

Group 4.

Guo did a huge quad toe in the warm-up, he had plenty of time to spare between completing the rotation and landing!

Stannick Jeanette (FRA) - 3axel3toe; 2lutz; changefoot sit, very fast; straight steps; very cool spin combo; circular steps; 2axel all over the place in the air but landed cleanly; deathdrop, again with unusual positions. Commentators called it "nearly brilliant". 4.6 to 5.1, 5.3 to 5.5.

Zhengxin Guo (CHN) - 3axel3toe; 4toe; spin combo; straight steps; deathdrop; 2axel; circular steps; changefoot sit. 5.1 to 5.6, 4.8 to 5.3.

Vitali Danilchenko (UKR) - 3axel2toe; 3lutz, pause between steps and jump; flying camel; straight steps; 2axel; changefoot sit; serpentine steps; spin combo, fast. 4.7 to 5.2, 4.9 to 5.4.

Takeshi Honda (JPN) - fall on 4toe, crashed into boards and took a long time to get back into the programme; 3axel fell out 2toe; flying spin; spread eagle into 2axel (I love it when they do that!); changefoot sit; circular steps; spin combo. Chris said he "almost put a step sequence between the axel and the toe". Nice hair! 4.3 to 4.8, 4.7 to 5.5. Japanese judge had him fourth...

Stefan Lindemann (GER) - 3axel2toe; 3lutz fell out onto two feet; straight steps; death drop, trouble centring; circular steps; 2axel, straight from more steps; spin combo; changefoot sit. 4.5 to 5.0, 5.0 to 5.3.

Andrejs Vlascenko (GER) - 3axel2toe; 2lutz very close to the barrier; death drop; 2axel; spin combo; changefoot sit, fast. 4.2 to 4.8, 5.1 to 5.6.

Group 5.

Alexander Abt (RUS) - 3axel3toe; 3lutz; serpentine steps; changefoot camel, fast; circular steps; flying camel; 2axel, lovely and floating; spin combo. 5.5 to 5.6, 5.6 to 5.8.

Chengjiang Li (CHN) - 4toe, beautiful; 3axel two feet step out 2toe; spin combo; serpentine steps; changefoot sit; straight steps; 2axel; flying camel. Costume would've been better with either less bits of pattern or more muted colours. Big flapping lime green palm leaves are a bit much. 4.9 to 5.5, 5.1 to 5.7.

Yevgeny Plushenko (RUS) - 4toe; 3axel3toe; flying camel; circular steps; 2axel; changefoot sit; straight steps; spin combo, quite a bit of travel. Jumps were all perfect. His new haircut looks much better. 5.7 to 5.8, 5.7 to 5.8.

Elvis Stojko (CAN) - 3axel3toe; fall on 4toe, underrotated; straight steps; deathdrop; changefoot sit; serpentine steps; 2axel; spin combo with very fast scratch to finish, as usual. He landed the quad perfectly in the warm-up. The costume is horrible, that royal blue does not look good on him. Chris says the spins are some of the best he's seen from him. 5.1 to 5.5, there were gasps when they came up, 5.5 to 5.8. Lucky.

Michael Weiss (USA) - 4toe, may have been slightly underrotated; 3axel3toe; circular steps; deathdrop; 2axel not quite sure what happened, fell straight out; changefoot sit; straight steps; spin combo good. 5.1 to 5.6, 5.6 to 5.9.

Alexei Yagudin (RUS) - 4toe; 3axel3toe, axel seemed even bigger than usual; besti squat in front of the judges, love it!; death drop unbelievably huge; circular steps; 2axel, big; changefoot sit, fast; serpentine steps, incredible; spin combo. Standing ovation! He was really enjoying himself out there, he wants this so much! He was flying! 5.7 to 5.9, all 5.9s, all but the Canadian have him first. And such a big smile! Wow.
